Arbonics, a Tallinn-based nature tech company, has successfully raised €5.5 million in seed funding from NordicNinja, Plural, and Tilia Impact Ventures. The investment aims to meet the rising demand for effective carbon removal solutions. This funding round brings Arbonics’ total raised capital to €7.3 million, enabling the company to further develop its product portfolio, expand its team, and extend coverage to 50% of European forests by the next year.

Founded in 2022 by CEO Kristjan Lepik and COO Lisett Luik, Arbonics is redefining transparency and impact in forest carbon projects. The company not only appeals to investors in forestry but also provides valuable insights for landowners seeking to quantify the environmental benefits of their properties.

Arbonics’ innovative platform integrates data from on-the-ground sensors, soil readings, and satellite imagery, coupled with in-house ecology and forestry expertise. This allows for the remote and precise calculation of carbon removal potential in European countries, enabling quick assessments of the needed trees and their carbon impact.

CEO Kristjan Lepik emphasizes the significance of this funding, stating, “Our tech stack is designed to elevate the nature-based removals industry, setting a new standard for transparent carbon removal.”

The funds will support Arbonics in enhancing biodiversity impact assessments, expanding its team, and collaborating with leading scientists through the establishment of a scientific advisory board. The company plans to cover 50% of Europe’s forests by the end of 2024.

Taavet Hinrikus, Partner at Plural, notes, “Arbonics does what is needed urgently. If we empower nature with technology, scalable solutions can happen this decade.”

Rainer Sternfeld, Managing Partner at NordicNinja, expresses confidence in Arbonics’ potential, stating, “We see Arbonics as having the potential to conquer the market in this crucial sector.”
